About - “Streetscapes are what I enjoy most,”

... Gardner explains. "I used to be very objective - copying what I saw. As I get more experienced I'm after capturing the feeling of the place."

Tasmanian watercolour artist Rod Gardner has dedicated many hours to capturing the essence of Launceston’s streets, a subject that holds a special place in his heart.

Gardner’s work is heavily influenced by the great tonal impressionist painters of over a century ago, such as Arthur Streeton and Tom Roberts.

Following a “Sell out” Solo exhibition at the Allport Gallery, Hobart, Rod Gardner’s popularity continues to soar — with private collections being established locally and abroad. His artistic perspective continues to evolve, allowing him to explore new techniques and approaches as his practice develops.

Rod is a current member of the First Nations Advisory Committee to First Space. A Sawtooth Ari initiative, First Space is an ongoing place for First Nations peoples to share art, experiences, creations and their stories.
